The end of the holidays is fast approaching. If you want to gift your daughter or son, we recommend the perfumes that Generation Z (1996-2012) likes the most.
Giving a new perfume to a loved one can often be difficult. The main dilemma? The smell of perfume. Because both girls and boys have specific tastes when it comes to choosing a perfume. And sometimes they have their favorite scents that they like, or worse, that they like less. To avoid any more mistakes, we asked Marine Ipert, perfumer and nose at Takasago International. And it’s easier than you think…
What Gen Z likes
For girls
There are certain profiles that are unanimous among Gen Z, an expert will first reveal to us. “A fruity fragrance combined with a floral one will be perfect for girls,” says Marine Ipert. When the flower is alone in the perfume, it will be much more mature and opulent than when combined with fruity notes. So it will be more suitable for the generation close to 35-40 years old.
The second thing to know, in food as well as in perfume, girls appreciate gourmet scents. “They are very attracted to generous nuances of vanilla or toffee, as well as aromas close to pastry like almonds,” he continues.
Finally, the third family of smells: oriental tones. Oriental perfumes are exploding on the web and Gen Z is crazy about them. Woody and spicy lyrics that refer to the vintage universe appeal to girls. But also in combination with notes of freshness such as rose or raspberry. Finally, according to the expert, patchouli is the most transgenerational note. Its strong character combined with fruity and floral notes will be a perfect perfume combination ideal for young women.
For boys
An observation you may have realized about men’s perfumes: scent families are often the same. The main reason is Marine Ipert, who tells us: “The reading in perfumery for men is quite tight. It’s generally the same notes that are revisited.” The older ones need a sense of performance with a perfume, a perfume that adds character. “Anything that’s very lively up top like cedar, with pungent, spicy, dry and metallic woods in the background, they will be extremely pleased,” reveals the perfumer.
However, younger children will need to smell fresh and clean. Instead, you should opt for a so-called “fougère” perfume with aromatic and citrus notes. The most common olfactory family in men’s perfumery. “The combination of fresh notes like sage, lavender, mint or juniper with oakmoss really appeals to young guys. These fragrances will give this effect of purity, which they very often look for in perfumes,” concludes Marine Ipert.
