Our expert reveals the colors you can rely on for a successful wedding manicure.
D-Day is fast approaching. After carefully choosing the wedding dress and fine-tuning the last details of the wedding hairstyle, all that remains is to take care of the nails. Because a nice manicure is necessary to proudly display your wedding ring. Yes, but here, among the jungle of proposals, how to choose the shade of paint that will suit you best? Alexandra Falba, expert OPI manicurist, reveals her tips for making the right choice.
How to choose a wedding manicure?
You will be the center of attention for a day (or several). From head to toe, all eyes will be on you. And your hands will be no exception. “The first question you have to ask yourself is: what do I want to draw attention to,” reveals Alexandra Falba. “The answer goes a long way in explaining why nail polish colors recommended for weddings are generally discreet. » At the top of the list? Nude shades, more or less opaque, soft white or baby pink. “Essentially, these colors will allow us to show off a neat, lacquered manicure that doesn’t take up the rest of the outfit. The hands are almost a detail,” explains our expert. Another advantage: these polishes go with every look.
The trick to finding the shade that suits you best
To see the shade that best suits your skin tone, you need to find your skin undertone. “Just look at the veins on your wrist to determine the predominant color. If the veins are more green, we are talking about a warm undertone. If they are bluish, it is a cool undertone. Finally, if we observe as many green veins as blue, it is a neutral undertone,” reveals the professional. “Pink nudes are more suitable for cool undertones, unlike orange or apricot, which are perfect for warm undertones. You can choose any color for neutral undertones.” Then all that remains is to choose a surface: more opaque or semi-transparent? “There is no real rule at this stage, but if you have stains or small marks on your nails, it is better to choose a cover-up,” advises Alexandra Falba.
Matching your nails to your outfit: good or bad idea?
Faced with the rise of nail art and extravagant manicures, it’s legitimate to wonder if matching your nail polish color with your outfit is a good idea. “If you’re brave, you can totally imagine matching your nail polish with your wedding dress. This creates a nice harmony, for example, in full-length photos. On the other hand, keep in mind that if you choose a bolder color, you risk stealing the spotlight from your ring,” warns the professional manicurist. Therefore meditate.
